Nicola Sturgeon lockdown announcement will take place today with news on level system

Nicola Sturgeon will issue a Covid lockdown announcement this afternoon in her first briefing in over a week.

The First Minister is expected to confirm which areas will be placed in protection level three, and which will remain in level two from next week. Humza Yousaf, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Care, and National Clinical Director Jason Leitch are also to speak at the briefing. The update will be given at 12.15pm.

This comes as coronavirus cases rise in large parts of the country with fears about the increased transmissibility of the so called Indian variant.

Midlothian is among the areas to have seen the biggest increase, while in East Renfrewshire positive tests have also been trending upwards.

As reported by the Daily Record, East Renfrewshire is likely to be placed in level three. Glasgow is likely to remain at that level.

However there's good news for Moray with the local authority area likely to move to level two due to a decrease in cases.
