Nicola Sturgeon likely to announce new restrictions on social gatherings after new rules in England

Scotland is to review lockdown measures tomorrow, but with the current coronavirus cases continuing to spike once again, the First Minister has warned not to expect any major relaxations.

Nicola Sturgeon said that Scotland is likely to take a 'cautious' approach and 'won't 'rule out the need to make changes to the number of people allowed to gather together' as we have 'seen in England.'

Scotland now looks likely to follow in Boris Johnson's footsteps, who has made gatherings of more than six people illegal in England from 14 September.

The UK government will also enforce a £100 penalty to people in England who break the rules, with fines of up to £3,200 given to multiple offenses.

Speaking at the daily coronavirus briefing, the First Minister said: "We can't rule out the need to make changes to the number of people allowed to gather together like those announced for English people last night."

In England, the law has been put in place for the 'foreseeable future' with hopes that it can be 'fixed by Christmas.'

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed today that Scotland is now 'considering what new steps may be needed to keep COVID under control.'

It has also been suggested that Scotland is considering changes to the number of households allowed to meet up, with Nicola Sturgeon saying: "we may or may not depending on the decisions we take today change these limits."

The First Minister will set out the official changed tomorrow from the Scottish parliament.
