Nicola Sturgeon is self-isolating after being identified as close contact of Covid case

Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed she is self-isolating after being identified as the close contact of a Covid case.

The Scottish First Minister shared the news on social media on Sunday evening.

She said she would be isolating pending the result of a PCR test "in line with the rules" while expressing her thanks to contact tracers working in the NHS.

Sturgeon posted: "I’ve had notification tonight that I’ve been identified as a close contact of someone who is positive for Covid.

"Accordingly, and in line with the rules, I’ll be self-isolating pending a PCR test result.

"My thanks to all the contact tracers working so hard in NHS Test & Protect."

The Scottish Government announced on Sunday that 7,113 new cases of Covid-19 had been reported in the last 24-hours, with test positivity at 13.5 per cent.

507 people were in hospital with the virus, with 52 patients in intensive care. No additional deaths were reported although register offices are generally closed on weekends.
