Nicola Sturgeon insists Scotland's not ready for phase four yet

Scotland won't be moving into phase four of lockdown easing any time soon.

Nicola Sturgeon admitted today coronavirus still remains too much of a danger to public health to lift final restricitons.

Speaking at her daily briefing along with Professor Jason Leitch, the First Minister said: "A move to phase four requires me to conclude, based on advice of people like Jason, that Covid is no longer a threat to health.

"I don't think there is anybody that is looking at this seriously and could right now say this is a conclusion I could reach."

The news as Ms Sturgeon highlighted growing concern over the steady increase in confirmed cases of the virus across the country.

In the past 24 hours 176 new cases were reported, 91 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and three new deaths in Scotland as a whole.

And it comes just hours after the Scottish Government extended it's restrictions on household visits in Glasgow City, West Dumbartonshire and East Renfrewshire to include Renfrewshire and East Dumbartonshire.

She told the televised briefing: "If I was to reach that this week I think that all of you watching and everyone across Scotland would wonder where I was getting my advice from.

"I want us to make it through and of this route map as quickly as possible, but I caution against politicians making statements that appear to border on being reckless."
