Nicola Sturgeon hopes to reach Christmas lockdown easing agreement this afternoon

Nicola Sturgeon has said she hopes the nations across the UK will reach an agreement on easing covid restrictions at Christmas.

However, the First Minister said a "common framework" could result in slightly different rules.

Talks between the three devolved administrations and the UK Government are on-going to find a four-nation approach to the Christmas holidays.

It has been reported that indoor meetings are on the agenda and could include people in a small number of households being able to meet for a limited period of time.

During a statement at Holyrood today, Sturgeon suggested an agreement is imminent.

"I will take part in a COBRA meeting later today, where it is hoped that we will agree a common framework, albeit that some details for example on the precise definition of household might differ to reflect the different circumstances in each nation," she told MSPs.

She said the UK could be within weeks of being able to vaccinate a significant proportion of the population, adding: "Any easing of restrictions will be temporary, it will be limited, and it will be accompanied by advice on the precautions that we should all take to minimise risk."
