Nicola Sturgeon hits out at Boris Johnson's air bridges revealing 'no Cobra meetings for weeks'

Nicola Sturgeon has said the Scottish Government will take more time consider the impact of restarting quarantine free foreign travel.

The UK Government had announced a number of so-called "air bridges" with a number of countries such as France where they assessed the coronavirus outbreak was under control.

The plan would allow people to travel to and from a countries on the list without having to self-isolate for 14 days at either end.

The UK Foreign Office has advised Brits against all but essential foreign since the beginning of lockdown, and in recent weeks a 14-day isolation period was introduced for anyone arriving into the UK from abroad.

But the govenrment indicated at the start of this week that they would publish a number of "air bridges", also called travel corridors, if they could secure agreements with other countries.

A traffic light system will decide which nations are safe to travel too, with experts looking at the prevalence of coronavirus in the country, the Mirror reported.

However, speaking at her daily briefing today, Nicola Sturgeon insisted there had been no consultation between the UK and Scottish Government's on the plan.

Scotland’s Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf had a conference call with Michael Gove and the other devolved administrations on the issue on Monday morning, she added.

Ms Sturgeon said she can “see the benefits” of a consistent UK-wide approach on air bridges, but said quarantine restrictions could become more important in Scotland as the relative impact cases coming into the area from overseas could potentially be greater.

As a result, she said her government will be taking more time to consider the use of air bridges and will make a further announcement on them in the future.
