Nicola Sturgeon hints at 'traffic-light' lockdown across four nations

Nicola Sturgeon has hinted at UK-wide framework for dealing with pandemic, similar to a traffic-light system being proposed down south.

The First Minister was pressed on whether the leaders of the four nations were cooperating when considering further restrictions and the country's ongoing response to the virus.

She revealed that the Scottish Government are looking at "aligning" the four nations' positions in a "framework document" for "different levels of response" in the future, which would depend on levels of infection.

It comes as the Guardian revealed a leaked document showed the UK Government were planning a three-tier "traffic-light" coronavirus lockdown system.

According to the paper, the draft is called the “Covid-19 Proposed Social Distancing Framework” and was dated 30 September. The paper add that the system is designed to simplify the patchwork localised restrictions.

Speaking at today's daily coronavirus briefing, Ms Sturgeon said: "We're all looking at our own circumstances and acting appropriately [...]we're all responding to the situations that we're faced with.

She continued: "We all have to take the decisions we think are necessary but one thing we are trying to see is if we can cooperate on and align is our positions on - the UK government's working on this, and I've signalled that we are working on a similar thing and we're going to see if we can come to some agreement - is as almost a sort of framework document.

"Not withstanding what we might do this week, a framework for the future of different levels of response depending on different levels of infection."
