Nicola Sturgeon hints at huge Scotland lockdown update with 'concrete' dates ahead of announcement

Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed a list of lockdown changes that she hopes to give dates for tomorrow (March 16).

Today, the First Minister spoke at the coronavirus daily briefing where she laid out an idea of what will be announced at the lockdown review on Tuesday.

Although she commented that "our room for maneuver is still quite limited", the First Minister stated that the roadmap will lay out changes to be made in the coming weeks, as well as further into the future.

The framework was also confirmed to operate in three week blocks, with the next set of changes to come into force on April 5.

From there, Nicola Sturgeon explained that the following changes would come in late April, then mid May, before a "much less detailed" proposal for what could happen in later in the year.

What will be announced tomorrow?

Speaking about exactly what will be announced tomorrow, the FM said:

"It will include the proposed date for the end of the stay at home rule, the reopening of shopping, the reopening of outdoor and then indoor hospitality and then further relaxations to the rules about meeting up with other households.

“Tomorrow’s statement will underline the fact I hope that as schools return and the most severe of the current restrictions ease, things will start to get a fair bit better in the weeks and months ahead."

This will also be in addition to the schools updates the government has already given, with all pupils set to be back in full time education after the Easter holidays.

However, the FM also added that the move out of lockdown will be slower than last year due to the new variant of the virus being able to spread quicker.

She added: "We can’t afford to simply throw caution to the wind, the virus is still out there and we have seen that particularly in the last week with a slight rise in cases."

It comes as 456 new cases and no new deaths of coronavirus were identified in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

The low number of deaths recorded due to registration offices being closed at the weekend, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

What were today's daily coronavirus in Scotland headline figures?

A total of 447 people are being treated in hospital for the virus, 14 less than Sunday, with 40 in intensive care.

Since the start of the pandemic, 7,510 people have lost their lives to coronavirus in Scotland while 210, 008 have tested positive.

Of today's positive cases 136 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 76 in Lanarkshire, and 70 in Lothian.

The news came on the day The Daily Record reported on more Scots primary school pupils returning to their classrooms.

Children in primaries four to seven will join their younger schoolmates who went back on February 22.

Secondary pupils have also returned to school part-time for practical assignments and will undertake blended learning until after the Easter holidays.
