Nicola Sturgeon has said she's 'frustrated and depressed' at the prospect of a no-deal Brexit

Nicola Sturgeon says she’s “deeply frustrated and depressed” at the prospect of leaving the EU with no deal in a health crisis.

Boris Johnson signalled that a no deal Brexit is the likely conclusion after another round of talks today.

Speaking after talks with Brussels, the Prime Minister has announced Brussels would not give Britain the kind of deal he wants, and insisted unless that changed there would be no agreement.

He said: “From the outset we were totally clear we wanted nothing more complicated than a Canada style relationship based on friendship and free trade.

“To judge by the latest EU summit in Brussels, that won’t work for our EU partners, they want the continued power to control our legislative freedom, our fisheries in a way that is completely unacceptable to an independent country.

“If the EU comes back ‘with a fundamental change of opinion’ then the UK will listen but that doesn't sound likely after the summit.

“It is clear from the summit that after 45 years of membership, they are not willing unless there is some kind of change of approach to offer this country the same terms as Canada.”

Speaking at her daily coronavirus briefing in Edinburgh today, Nicola Sturgeon described the prospect of a no-deal - or even a bare bones deal - as a "massive, disruptive event".

She says that at a time when "all of us should be giving 100% of our time, focus and energy to Covid, the Scottish government are having to think about how we cope with the prospect of Brexit."

She added that every hour she has to spend on that is an hour where she's not steering the country through the pandemic.

She said she put her own constitutional planning on hold at the start of the pandemic, and believes that the UK Government could have done the same with Brexit.
