Nicola Sturgeon gives SNP members independence fact-sheets after indyref speech

The SNP membership was provided with fact sheets on independence

THE First Minister has written to all SNP members outlining the "key facts" to know about the fresh indyref2 campaign.

In an email sent to the membership on Tuesday, after the first "scene-setter" document was published, the party included a four-page leaflet outlining the “10 Key Facts You Need To Know” alongside a note from Sturgeon urging members to start having conversations about independence with family and friends.

She said: “We know that Scotland has got what it takes to be an independent country, but only you can make it happen by having conversations with your friends and family about the possibilities of independence."

As of March 2021, the SNP has a membership of 125,691.

The email summarises the argument for independence simply, providing conversation starters for members across the country.

“The choice for Scotland is one of two futures," it says.

“A two-party system with the Tories and Labour, who both back a damaging Brexit that Scotland overwhelmingly voted against ... or an independent Scotland, with whichever Scottish Government we choose, working as a sensible partner and ally to its neighbours in both Europe and the rest of the UK.

“It’s a choice between further inaction over the cost-of-living crisis from the Tories at Westminster.

“Or an independent Scotland, with real action designed and implemented in Scotland.

“It's about driving forward Scotland's journey to net-zero - not dragging our heels over the climate crisis.

“It’s about designing a social security system with dignity, fairness, and respect at its heart, looking after you throughout your life - no longer tied to Tory policies that make the rich richer, and leave the poorest behind."

The remainder of the leaflet provides members with graphics comparing countries with Scotland as Sturgeon set out on Tuesday morning in the first of five papers to be published by the Government titled “Independence in the modern world. Wealthier, happier, fairer: why not Scotland?”.
