Nicola Sturgeon five tier lockdown plan: What time is the coronavirus update and how can I watch it

Scotland's new five-tier lockdown plan is to be revealed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon today.

Details about the new system, which is set to come into force on November 2, will be outlined at the government briefing this afternoon.

The framework, which is similar to the rules  currently in place in the Republic of Ireland, allow for different restrictions to be imposed or reduced across the whole country, or in different parts, depending on infection rates.

Where can I watch it?

Nicola Sturgeon's coronavirus briefing is scheduled to go ahead at 12:15pm on BBC One Scotland and BBC Scotland. You can watch on BBC iPlayer and ScotGov Twitter.

What is she likely to say?

The First Minister has confirmed the new tiered system will allow for different restrictions to be imposed or reduced across the whole country, or in different parts, depending on infection rates.

The framework is different from that operated south of the border where only three levels exist, but could be on a par with a five tier approach currently in place in the Republic of Ireland.

She has already said the three middle tiers will be broadly similar to the new system in England - where areas are classed as being at either "medium", "high" or "very high" risk.

Across all five levels, schools are to remain open as far as possible. Travel restrictions will also be part of the new system.
