Nicola Sturgeon decision on lockdown takeaway restrictions will go before parliament tomorrow

Nicola Sturgeon will announce any decisions regarding new coronavirus restrictions on takeaway and click and collect services to the Scottish Parliament tomorrow.

Speaking at today's daily briefing, the First Minister confirmed that she had met with her Cabinet this morning to discuss any potential new measures.

Ms Sturgeon said no final decision have yet been made, with considerations to be made over the course of the day.

She said: "Earlier this morning, chaired the weekly meeting of the Scottish Cabinet.

"As I indicated yesterday, one of the things we discussed is whether there are any areas, takeaway and click and collect services being two examples, where we think it's a need to further tighten restrictions.

"To reduce the reasons for people to be out of their homes at the moment. We're continuing to consider these options a little bit further, and I can tell you that I will update Parliament tomorrow on any decisions that we reach over the course of the day. "

It comes as the number of covid deaths has surpassed 5,000, with the number increasing by 54 in the past 24 hours to 5023.

1,875 positive cases were also recorded - making up 12% of total tests - and bringing the total figure since the start of the pandemic to 153,423.

607 of these were recorded in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and 280 in Lanarkshire.

The number of hospital admissions has risen to 1717,which exceeds the peak of the pandemic in April last year when there was no more than 1,520 people in hospital at any one time.

133 of these admissions are currently in intensive care, an increase of seven.
