First Minister Nicola Sturgeon used her daily coronavirus update to announce a huge new library of online courses that have been added to Skills Development Scotland's My World of Work site.
The courses are offered by universities all around the world, including the Open University in Scotland.
On the Open University in Scotland's OpenLearn site alone, potential students can choose between courses in nature and the environment - including one on microbes - and traditional subjects like science and maths, as well as learning practical skills like essay and report writing.
The My World Of Work site also links to courses around the world offered by leading universities like Harvard and Yale.
Speaking at the briefing, Nicola Sturgeon said: "Skills Development Scotland have updated their My World Of Work website with the support of the Open University in Scotland to highlight free courses offered by 12 providers. In the coming weeks and months we'll expand the number of courses available by working with colleges and universities.
"I'm aware that doing courses like this might not be an option for everyone. If you have caring responsibilities or volunteer to help others time to study might be pretty limited."
She went on to suggest it could be helpful for people who have been furloughed or who are unemployed.
