Nicola Sturgeon covid update happening today - here’s what time and how to watch it

Nicola Sturgeon will deliver a coronavirus announcement to the public today, with lockdown restrictions set to be further eased next week.

The First Minister is set to review lockdown restrictions across Scotland today and will deliver the final decisions for the next easing of restrictions.

Lockdown measures are scheduled to be further eased on May 17, when the country is expected to move down from Level 3 to Level 2 of restrictions.

It will be Ms Sturgeon's first covid briefing since the Scottish Parliament election where she was re-elected as First Minister.

What time will the announcement be made at?

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to deliver the briefing live from St Andrews House in Edinburgh at 12.15pm today.

Where can I watch it?

The briefing will be broadcast live on the BBC One Scotland channel as well as the Scottish Government Twitter page.

What is she expected to say?

The First Minister is expected to discuss the latest easing of restrictions, set to come into effect on Monday, May 17.

The planned changes include a move from Level 3 to Level 2 across the country, meaning restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars can open indoors and serve alcohol until 10:30pm with two-hour pre-booked slots.

Cinemas, theatres, concert halls, music venues, comedy clubs and bingo halls are also expected to be able to open with restrictions, as can outdoor performing arts activities. Small outdoor and indoor events may be able to resume, subject to capacity limits.

If the changes are given the go ahead, meeting inside people's homes would also be permitted from May 17 in groups of up to four from two households. Six from three households could also meet in an indoor public space, while eight adults from eight households may meet outdoors.

It is also anticipated Ms Sturgeon will address speculation that travellers from certain countries will not have to quarantine, with a traffic light system similar to England's being put in place.
