Nicola Sturgeon Covid announcement: FM will make 'changes to Scotland's lockdown' today

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Chief Medical Officer Dr Gregor Smith will hold a media briefing on coronavirus (COVID-19) today.

The First Minister will provide an update on changes to planned easing of restrictions.

It is believed this will include an update to travel rules within Scotland.

The briefing will be on record, on camera and hosted virtually, in line with physical distancing measures.

You can get all the updates from the briefing on our dedicated live blog here.

As the Scottish Government is currently in the pre-election period only questions related to COVID-19 can be answered at the briefing.

Nicola Sturgeon has tweeted: "I’ll give a #Covid update at 12 noon. I’ll report on progress & confirm we’re firmly on track for substantial re-opening of economy on 26 April. We’ve also been considering whether any earlier changes to support mental health & wellbeing are possible & I’ll update on that too."

Nicola Sturgeon will begin the briefing at approximately 12pm this afternoon live from St Andrew's House.

Yesterday we reported how there are now just 17 Edinburgh neighbourhoods that are recording new coronavirus infections.

Nearly every part of the city now has so few cases that they don't register in Public Health Scotland data.

No part of the city had a rate of 200 cases per 100,00 of the population or higher in the past seven days.

Scotland recorded its lowest number of daily Covid-19 cases today in almost seven months yesterday.

The latest figures recorded just 199 positive tests in 24 hours.

While cases are often lower following a weekend, the figure is the smallest number of new cases since 70 were recorded on September 14.
