Nicola Sturgeon confirms six further coronavirus deaths in Scotland

Six further people with coronavirus have now died in Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

It brings the total number of deaths to 22 across Scotland.

Speaking at a press conference in Edinburgh, the first minister said there are 51 people in intensive care across Scotland who have either been diagnosed or are suspected to have coronavirus.

Sturgeon said the Scottish Government were in the process of confirming the number of confirmed cases across Scotland and in the Lothians.

A Scottish scientific advisory group is also to be established, the first minister said.

Scotland's chief medical officer Dr Catherine Calderwood said it would provide "bespoke" advice to Scotland's situation.

It will be informed by Scottish data, rather than UK wide data, and could mean we adopt slightly different virus suppression methods than elsewhere in the UK.

Nicola Sturgeon also confirmed that only 1% of people had taken up the provision of childcare for key workers.

She praised parents for coming up with innovative solutions for childcare.

Health secretary Jeane Freeman, who joined the press conference, said NHS Scotland was looking across its estate to increase capacity.
