Nicola Sturgeon confirms Scotland to ease lockdown measures from Friday

Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed Scotland will begin easing lockdown restrictions from tomorrow.

The First Minister announced that households will be free to meet as long as they are outdoors and stay two metres apart.

Sunbathing will be permitted in public spaces while people can also sit in parks.

But Ms Sturgeon stressed the government's "strong advice" was not to travel more than five miles for "recreation or leisure".

It comes ahead of a weekend of predicted warm and sunny weather across Ayrshire and beyond.

But the SNP leader reminded Scots that the battle against coronavirus was far from won and urged the public to adhere to social distancing rules.

The First Minister admitted that even she felt "a bit nervous" ahead of the major step to start easing restrictions.

And she urged the public to respect the social distancing measures that are still in place.

Garden centres and plant nurseries are among those able to reopen from tomorrow, while recycling centres reopen from Monday.

Takeaway businesses will also no longer be discouraged from operating.

But businesses are still being encouraged to allow home working wherever possible.

Outdoor leisure activities such as golf, bowls and fishing are among the sports which will be given the green light in phase one tomorrow, again with social distancing measures attached.
