Nicola Sturgeon confirms pubs, restaurants and hairdressers can open on Wednesday

Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed pubs, restaurants and hairdressers will open on Wednesday after announcing another easing of lockdown restrictions.

She also said the two metre rule would be relaxed in sectors such as public transport and the retail from tomorrow.

She said “limited indoor gatherings” would also be permitted from tomorrow and she lifted restrictions for non-cohabiting couples.

The First Minister made the announcement as she informed MSPs the country would move into phase 3 of her government’s routemap strategy.

On the reopening of indoor cafes, restaurants and pubs, she said it would be subject to strict public health measures.

This includes guidance on physical distancing and taking customer contact details. Outdoor and indoor hospitality venues will be granted an exemption from the 2 metre rule if "mitigating measures" are implemented.

Outdoor hospitality, such as beer gardens, have already reopened.

The tourism sector, including hotels, will open on Wednesday, as will galleries, cinemas and museums.

Sturgeon also gave the green light to beauticians and nail salons reopening on July 22nd, subject to "enhanced hygiene measures".

From tomorrow, a household will be able to meet up to four other households outdoors - up to 15 people in total.

Children aged 11 or under, also from tomorrow, will not need to physically distance indoors.

From Monday, shops in shopping centres will be able to reopen.

On the same day, organised outdoor contact sports and physical activity will be able to resume for children and young people, subject to guidance being followed.

However, Sturgeon said there are other activities in phase 3 of the route map that the Government could not attach a specific date to.

These activities include the reopening of non-essential offices and call centres, the resumption of outdoor live events, and the reopening of indoor entertainment venues such as theatres, music venues and bingo halls.

They also include the opening of indoor gyms, and the resumption of non professional adult outdoor contact sports.
