Nicola Sturgeon confirms level three lockdown for Glasgow

Glasgow will go into level three lockdown on Monday.

Nicola Sturgeon has just confirmed the city will follow large swathes of the central belt into the second highest of Scotland's five tiers.

Speaking in the Scottish Parliament just a few minutes ago she explained the new system will be reviewed weekly on Tuesday and any changes applied the following Friday.

That means the first one will take place on Tuesday, November 10.

And it comes after she confirmed a further 1,128 new cases of coronavirus overnight in Scotland, 416 of them in Glasgow.

Sadly 37 further deaths were also reported in the past 24 hours.

Every local authority in the country - including Glasgow City -  was assessed separately and an appropriate level applied.

Level three means that tough restrictions will remain in force across much of the city, except all hospitality will be allowed to open, with restrictions.

Pubs, cafés and restaurants can open for food and non-alcoholic drinks until 6pm.

Hotels and other accommodation will continue to be able to serve evening meals to residents.
