Nicola Sturgeon confirms Glasgow's level 4 lockdown ends on Friday but warns of 'cautious' changes

Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed Glasgow will move out of level four lockdown on Friday, but warned relaxing of restrictions will be cautious.

Speaking today she said it's clear infection rates are falling, revealing the percentage of positive cases is close to the figure used by the World Health Organisation to indicate the virus is under control.

The First Minister was giving her daily lunchtime briefing ahead of the nationwide lockdown review announcement in the Scottish Parliament tomorrow.

She explained tier four restrictions currently imposed in 11 local authority areas will be lifted. However, she pointed out that a "cautious and careful" approach is being used to determine which level each area will move to.

She said: "Our decisions will be based on the trajectory of the virus in each local authority area, as well as the need to protect capacity in the NHS and we will also consider the social and economic harms that come from the restrictions."

The news comes as Ms Sturgeon said a further 677 people tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24 hours, 178 of them in Glasgow.

She also announced one further death, bringing to total number of people who have lost their lives to the virus since the start of the pandemic to 3,917.

The final lockdown decision will be made by Ms Sturgeon's cabinet over the next 24 hours and full details explained to MSPs at 2.30pm tomorrow.
