Nicola Sturgeon confirms easing of outdoor mixing rules and return to communal worship

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed from Friday, there will be an easing of outdoor mixing rules and a return to communal worship.

Speaking in her address to Parliament in Holyrood today, Ms Sturgeon said the relaxation of lockdown restrictions are ‘relatively minor, but important for our wellbeing’.

From Friday, up to four adults from up to two households can meet outdoors. This is allowed for social and recreation purposes as well as exercise.

Young people aged 12-17 are also allowed outdoor meetings - limited to maximum of four people but the two household rule won't apply.

Additionally outdoor non-contact sports are now permitted for all adults in groups for up to 15 people.

She stressed that people must not meet up with others from other households indoors yet.

The changes will apply from Friday.

Similarly, Ms Sturgeon confirmed her intention to allow communal worship to restart from Friday March 25.

The limit on attendance will increase from 20 to 50, assuming place of worship is spacious enough to accomodate 50 people with social distancing.

Ms Sturgeon says that "easing restrictions too quickly" would be "mistake we would regret".

She added the restrictions "do represent gradual, but, I hope, steady steps out of lockdown and back towards a life where we can interact much more freely with our loved ones."

As we are nearing the first anniversary of Scotland's first covid death, plans for remembrance are being constructed of which we will hear more about in the next fortnight.

Current plans for 23 March include a national silence.
