Nicola Sturgeon confirms coronavirus tier levels for all three Ayrshire regions

Nicola Sturgeon has announced what tiers the three Ayrshire local authorities will be in from Friday.

The First Minister announced that East and South Ayrshire will join North Ayrshire in Tier 3 from 6pm this Friday.

Ms Sturgeon also said that retail could open from 6am on Friday, instead of 6pm.

It was announced three weeks ago that East and South Ayrshire would plunged into Tier 4 lockdown while North Ayrshire would remain in Tier 3.

The measures saw non-essential retail close and outdoor socialising limited to six people from two households.

Data released today shows East Ayrshire's seven-day case rate per 100,000 is at 132.8, while North Ayrshire's rate is at 143.2 and South Ayrshire is 97.7.

The First Minister's announcement comes as NHS Ayrshire & Arran confirmed that the rollout of the coronavirus vaccine had started in the region.
