Ayrshire has been placed into Tier 3 of the new coronavirus alert system which launches from Monday.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the news at her daily briefing this lunchtime.
Under the rules, people will be banned from meeting indoors with other households and restricted to six people from two households outdoors.
The hospitality sector will slowly be permitted to re-open under severe restrictions, while no non-essential travel will be allowed into or out of the level 3 area.
A five-tier scheme has been put in place across the country, although no council areas have yet been placed into Tier 0, the least restrictive.
Each of the Ayrshire local authority regions - South, East and North, will go into Tier 3 when the new system takes effect from Monday.
It comes as another 121 coronavirus positive cases were confirmed across Ayrshire & Arran during the last 24 hours.
Scotland has recorded a further 37 new coronavirus deaths and 1,128 cases of the virus during the last day.
Reacting to the announcement, Ayr MSP John Scott said the announcement was "perhaps expected, but nonetheless very disappointing news".
He said: "It means the tighter rules against socialising with other households that we have all lived with since October 9 will continue for the time being, and although there has been some easing of restrictions in hospitality venues, that sector continues to bear the brunt of the economic impact of dealing with Covid-19.
"Ongoing grant support to those businesses will be absolutely critical over the weeks ahead, and we need assurances from government that it will continue to be given for as long as it is needed.
"So things are going to be tough going for a while yet, and we must all continue to work together to drive the rate of virus infection locally down, so that when the new restrictions are reviewed there is the best chance we can move from Level 3 to Level 2, and have the further easing we all want to see as quickly as possible."
