The First Minister has confirmed 19 people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
Nicola Sturgeon also said on Friday that the latest daily figures for Scotland showed 5,018 new cases of the virus had been identified overnight.
The overall death toll since last March - of people who first tested positive for covid within the previous 28 days - now stands at 9,707.
Ms Sturgeon also confirmed there have been 110 Omicron cases confirmed in Scotland.
There are currently 573 people in hospital confirmed to have covid-19 with 40 being treated in intensive care.
The figures come as Ms Sturgeon delivers her press briefing today at Holyrood amid fears over the spread of the Omicron variant across the country.
It comes after a coronavirus outbreak at a Scots hospital sparked a staffing crisis after medics were forced into isolation.
University Hospital Hairmyres, in East Kilbride, confirmed a number of employees had tested positive for Covid-19 as an NHS Lanarkshire director urged workers to adhere to guidelines over the festive period, warning the health board was struggling to manage the emergence of the Omicron variant.
A source told the Record the staff shortage had sparked “chaos”, with staff in the hospital’s A&E and vascular wards amongst those affected.
