Nicola Sturgeon backed by majority of Scots for her handling of coronavirus crisis, poll shows

Nicola Sturgeon’s handling of the coronavirus crisis has the support of the vast majority of Scots, a new survey suggests.

The findings show three quarters of the public, including Labour and Tory voters, think the SNP Government is doing well.

Pollsters YouGov also found the SNP are still by far the most dominant political force in Scotland a year from the next Holyrood election.

The results show:

  • A huge 71% of Scots have a lot or fair amount of confidence in the First Minister.
  • But Boris Johnson scored just 40%, with 55% saying they have not very much or no confidence in him.
  • 74% of all Scots think the Scottish Government is handling the crisis well
  • But just 47% of Scots think the UK Government is doing well, with 48% saying it’s going badly.

And the results show the SNP riding high despite more than a decade in power and in the middle of a public health crisis.

The SNP are on 51% support for Westminster voting intention, up six points on the December result. The party is as high as 54% for constituency voting at Holyrood.

It’s bad news for Labour on just 15% for Westminster voting and 12% in Holyrood.

Tories are in second place at 25% in Westminster and 23% for Holyrood.
