Nicola Sturgeon announces which lockdown restrictions will be eased early

Nicola Sturgeon today announced an acceleration of lockdown measures across Scotland.

The First Minister told the Scottish Parliament that "minor" changes would be made to tough measures imposed on millions across the country.

From Friday, up to four adults from two households can meet for social and recreational purposes as well as exercise – including private gardens.

Although residents can enter homes for essential purposes like getting to a garden or using a toilet.

Travel rules won't be relaxed at this stage, Ms Sturgeon confirmed..

Kids aged 12 to 17 years old can meet outdoors in groups of four from four households.

And from Friday, outdoor non-contact sport and organised exercise for groups of up to 15 people can resume.

Places of worship will also resume communal worship on Friday, March 26 ahead of Easter with an increase on capacity limit.

The decision means Ayrshire and the rest of Scotland can now embark on more socialising with family and friends outdoors.

Ms Sturgeon hinted last week that some lockdown restrictions would be eased earlier than expected as Scotland continued to produce encouraging coronavirus numbers.

Commenting, the First Minister said the changes were: "relatively minor but important for our wellbeing."

Sturgeon said that a firmer indicative timetable for reopening the economy will be revealed next week.

The Scottish Government announced last Tuesday that all primary school pupils will return to class from Monday, March 15 and secondary school students will return after the Easter holidays.

The update came as it was revealed that 19 more people have died from coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
