Nicola Sturgeon announces two coronavirus deaths in Scotland as 67 new cases recorded

Two people have died of coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24 hours, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.

It was announced that 67 new cases were identified across the country in the same period.

The new figures mean the total number of positive Covid-19 cases in the country stands at 19,988.

The figures were announced by the First Minister in the Scottish Parliament during First Minister Questions.

It means since the outbreak 2,494 people have died of confirmed Covid-19.

These are the first deaths announced in the daily figures since July 16.

249 people are currently being treated in hospital with two in intensive care.

The latest figures come after it was revealed a pupil at Lasswade High School in Bonnyrigg had tested positive for the deadly virus.

The student is the latest in a number of cases linked to Scottish schools.

The Scottish Government has announced face masks will be made mandatory in school communal areas from Monday, August 31.
