Nicola Sturgeon announces travel restrictions to England covid hotspots

Nicola Sturgeon has announced travel restrictions to hotspot areas of England that are subject to enhanced covid measures.

The First Minister said travel to three local authority areas in the north of England should be stopped from Monday.

She said: “We know that there are particularly serious outbreaks in in three specific English local authority areas - Bedford, Bolton and Blackford & Darwen."

"So for that reason for Monday onwards, we are putting hopefully temporary travel restrictions on travel between Scotland and those three local authority areas and England.

"So if you were planning to visit friends or relatives or to stay in those areas you must delay your visit.”

The First Minister told a covid press briefing that there were no restrictions on Scots in level one and two areas travelling to similar areas of England.

Sturgeon said: "We are not placing legal restrictions on travel to Lancashire or Greater Manchester more widely, or to areas around Bedfordshire, but if you’re planning to visit these in the next few days, please consider whether you need to make your visit, or whether it can be delayed."
