Nicola Sturgeon announces the lockdown easing measures that will take place from this week

Nicola Sturgeon has announced the lockdown easing that will take place from later this week.

The First Minister revealed today as part of her daily briefing that a number of tough restrictions would be relaxed from Friday.

Firstly, the 'stay at home' message will be removed from this Friday and replaced with a 'stay local' message.

This means that Ayrshire residents and people living across the rest of Scotland can leave their homes for non-essential purposes.

However, travel restrictions remain in place and going to another local authority area should only be for an essential reason.

From Monday, April 5, students, mainly from college, can return for on-campus learning.

Hairdressers and barbers can also take appointments from April 5.

A limited reopening of retail will begin on Monday, too, with shops able to offer a click and collect service but appointments will be required.

Homeware and garden centres can reopen as well.

The easing of some restrictions comes as schools prepare to break up for the Easter holidays, with the mass vaccination programme continuing.
