Nicola Sturgeon announces no coronavirus deaths and 715 new cases in Scotland overnight

No Scots have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The Scottish Government also announced a further 715 positive cases have been detected overnight, bringing the total to 198,184.

Of those cases, 246 were in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, 140 in Lothian and 99 in Lanarkshire.

The rest of the positive cases are spread across nine other health boards.

The Scottish death toll now stands at 6,950 since the start of the pandemic last March.

More than 9,000 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

A total of 1,141 patients are currently being treated in hospital for the deadly virus with 99 in intensive care.

It comes as primary school pupils returned to school today.

Students in p1-3 were invited to return to classrooms.

Parents have been warned to remain vigilant and stick to the rules as data from the phased return to school will decide when more pupils will return.

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to announce the route to leaving lockdown this week.

She will address parliament tomorrow.
