Nicola Sturgeon announces no coronavirus deaths and 456 new cases in last 24 hours

Nicola Sturgeon announces no coronavirus deaths and 456 new cases in last 24 hours.

The First Minister released the figures from St Andrews House in Edinburgh.

The low number of deaths recorded from coronavirus in the last 24 hours is due to registration offices being closed at the weekend, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

A total of 447 people are being treated in hospital for the virus, 14 less than Sunday, with 40 in intensive care.

Since the start of the pandemic, 7,510 people have lost their lives to coronavirus in Scotland while 210, 008 have tested positive.

Of today's positive cases 136 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 76 in Lanarkshire, and 70 in Lothian.

The news came on the day The Daily Record reported on more Scots primary school pupils returning to their classrooms.

Children in primaries four to seven will join their younger schoolmates who went back on February 22.

Secondary pupils have also returned to school part-time for practical assignments and will undertake blended learning until after the Easter holidays.

Nicola Sturgeon told the Scottish parliament the return to school was a top priority for the roadmap out of lockdown.

The First Minister told MSPs on Wednesday: "We decided to try, even if it was limited, in the period between now and Easter to get young people back into school for some periods and to reacquaint them ahead of the Easter holidays.

"We are trying to get back to the provision of full-time education as quickly as is possible, and to recognise the need to introduce, even if it is partial, and even if it is phased, and even if it is limited, greater degrees of normality for young people from now onwards."
