There were nine deaths from coronavirus in Scotland overnight, the First Minister has announced.

Speaking at her daily briefing, Nicola Sturgeon said the death toll now stands at 2,594 since the start of the pandemic.

Some 1196 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since March to 45,232.

It comes as Scots will be forced to wear face coverings in more places from today.

The Scottish Government introduced the new rules yesterday which come into effect from today across the country.

Coverings will now be required in the workplace such as in a canteen.

On Monday the rules on face coverings will be extended further to corridors and other communal areas.

Nicola Sturgeon also confirmed all existing Covid restrictions will remain in place.

Yesterday Sturgeon urged Sky Sports to offer the Celtic v Rangers game on free to air television.

She has already urged fans not to travel across the border to England or gather in houses to watch the crunch match at Celtic Park.
