Nicola Sturgeon announces new rules if you have a close contact with Covid

Nicola Sturgeon has announced new rules today for people who come into contact with someone who has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Speaking live at her First Minister's Questions session today, she said that those who have been in close contact with someone with coronavirus will now be required to self-isolate for ten days, as well as, now being required to book a Covid test for themself.

If the close contact also tests positive for the bug, their contacts will also be contacted and put through the same process, to allow 'more chains of transmission will be broken.'

Speaking at parliament, Nicola Sturgeon said: "From tomorrow the advice given to close contacts of people who test positive for coronavirus will change.

"As well as being asked to self-isolate for ten days, they will also be asked as a matter of course to get tested as well and if they then test positive their contacts will be traced and more chains of transmission will be broken so this is a further strengthening of test and protect. "

The news comes as a total of 1,121 new coronavirus cases have been identified in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

The First Minister spoke at the FMQ's on Wednesday, where she added that the 1,121 new cases represent 5.2 per cent of those tested for the virus on Tuesday

This takes the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 194,269.
