A total of 486 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24 hours, the highest number of cases recorded in a single day.
Speaking at the Scottish government's daily news briefing, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said two more people have died after they were confirmed to have Covid-19. A total of 2,508 fatalities have now been recorded.
Ms Sturgeon said: "That's obviously a real cause for concern but it also underlines why we took very decisive and very tough action yesterday to try to get the virus under control."
Of those new cases 13 are in Ayrshire - while 224 are in the Greater Glasgow area, 107 in Lanarkshire and 57 in Lothian.
A significant number of new cases in the Glasgow area are linked to an outbreak at Glasgow University halls of residence.
The total number of confirmed cases in Scotland now sits at 25,495 since the start of the pandemic in late March.
There are currently 83 patients in hospital, an increase of 10, with 10 remaining in intensive care.
The latest figures come as indoor visits between households in Scotland are now banned across the country after Nicola Sturgeon announced a range of lockdown restrictions.
The First Minister announced the new restrictions in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus across Scotland.
It's six months since the country was first put into lockdown in March.
Sturgeon also introduced at 10pm curfew for pubs, restaurants and bars, which will be enforced on Friday.
Cases across the country have increased over the last two weeks as different parts of the economy open up for the first time since late March when the pandemic hit the UK.
