Nicola Sturgeon announces 92 coronavirus deaths and 1,330 new cases in Scotland

A further 92 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

Nicola Sturgeon announced that 1,330 new cases of COVID-19 were reported overnight, taking the total figure to 175,232 since the start of the pandemic.

2,016 people are in hospital being treated for the deadly virus, while 145 people remain in intensive care.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, 5,888 have died after a positive Covid test.

The news comes after Piers Morgan called for “dithering” Boris Johnson to resign as the UK coronavirus death toll reached over 100,000.

The Good Morning Britain host shamed the Prime Minister for his list of errors during the coronavirus pandemic, which included him boasting in March last year that he had been shaking hands with a Covid patient in hospital.

Piers went on to suggest that Johnson should resign as there “has to be some accountability” from the government.

Sitting alongside co-host Susanna Reid, he said: “What a grim, horrible milestone that was - and that was just the official number, the one that the government was prepared to admit to."

Yesterday Deputy First Minister John Swinney announced that the lockdown in Scotland would not be lifted until at least the middle of February.
