Nicola Sturgeon announces 734 new coronavirus cases in Scotland and no deaths

There were no coronavirus deaths recorded in Scotland overnight, official figures reveal.

This is lower due to weekend recording centres being closed, so is likely to be higher tomorrow.

The First Minister also announced in her daily briefing 734 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total figure to 106,904.

Some 1,012 patients are currently in hospital being treated for the deadly virus with 46 of those in intensive care.

A 90-year-old former carer has become the first resident of a care home to get the Covid-19 vaccine in Scotland.

Annie Innes got the initial at Abercorn House in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, as the next stage of the fight-back got under way.

Delighted Annie said: "It's wonderful to get the vaccine before Christmas.

"I hope it keeps me, my friends here and the staff safe and means we can get back to normal very soon.

We revealed yesterday how the  SNP Government  earmarked  £6million of taxpayers’ money to laundry services and security guards  for the NHS Louisa Jordan field hospital.

The eye-watering sum includes a £2.4million contract for an England-based firm to provide clean bedding for the temporary facility,  which has yet to treat a single Covid-19 patient.

A Sunday Mail investigation has revealed a breakdown of the astronomical bill for the makeshift site at Glasgow’s SEC campus – which includes a £3.5million deal with security giant G4S.
