Nicola Sturgeon announces 64 new coronavirus deaths and 1,707 cases in Scotland

A further 64 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

Nicola Sturgeon made the announcement at the daily coronavirus briefing where it was also confirmed there were 1,707 new cases of Covid-19 reported overnight.

The latest figures take the total number of cases to 157, 079.

1,829 people are in hospital – up 35 overnight – while 142 are in intensive care.

It comes as 208,207 people have now been vaccinated across Sccotland.

Of the new cases 526 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 242 in Lanarkshire, 205 in Grampian and 177 Lothian. The remaining cases are spread across eight other health boards.

The briefing also focused on mental health as the First Minister announced the pandemic was a “tough time” for many people.

Sturgeon was joined by Principal Medical Officer for Mental Health, Dr Alastair Cook who outlined help available for those suffering from low mental health during lockdown.
