Nicola Sturgeon announces 50 new coronavirus deaths and 933 cases in Scotland

A further 50 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

Nicola Sturgeon also announced that 933 new cases of COVID-19 were reported overnight, taking the total figure to 103,305.

The death total has sadly now risen to 4,039 since the beginning of the pandemic in March.

984 people are in hospital being treated for the deadly virus while 52 people remain in intensive care

The news came as it emerged that a number of residents have died at a care home in Fife after a  coronavirus  outbreak saw 67 people test positive for the bug.

A total of 35 residents and 32 staff members have caught the virus at Canmore Lodge Care Home in  Dunfermline.

Health chiefs  confirmed there have been ‘a small number’ of deaths amongst some of the residents who tested positive.

UK regulators have warned anyone who suffers from "serious allergic reactions" not to take the vaccine. (jpimedia)

But due to confidentiality reasons, NHS Fife would only say that less than five people had lost their lives at the care facility.

They stressed that they were working closely with the partner agencies to prevent the virus spreading further.

NHS Fife Deputy Director of Public Health, Dr Esther Curnock, said: “We’re saddened by the deaths at Canmore Lodge Care Home and our thoughts are very much with their families’ and loved ones at this really difficult time.

“We are working alongside our colleagues in the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership and Fife Council’s Environmental Health Service to support the managers of the care home to try and prevent further transmission of the virus, and ensure that the standard of care for all residents is maintained.”
