Nicola Sturgeon announces 48 new coronavirus deaths in Scotland amid 830 cases

Nicola Sturgeon has revealed a further 48 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

The First Minister also announced that 830 new cases of COVID-19 were reported overnight, taking the total figure to 189,175.

Scotland's death toll now stands at 6,599.

1,499 people are in hospital being treated for the deadly virus while 109 people remain in intensive care.

It comes as droves of Scots missed out on their first Covid-19 vaccine appointment in the wake of Storm Darcy.

Large parts of the country have been blanketed by heavy snowfall after severe wintry conditions descended on Scotland earlier in the week.

The several inches of snow that has landed over the past few days has now started to freeze, resulting in testing conditions for people taking to Scotland’s pathways and roads.

It is feared that the weather may have an impact on the number of people getting their coronavirus jab.

NHS staff assured those who coulnd't make their appointment will be contacted with a new date and time.
