Nicola Sturgeon announces 47 new coronavirus cases as no deaths recorded since July 16

There have been no new deaths from coronavirus in Scotland with the number of new cases rising by 47.

A total of 19,173 people have now tested positive for Covid-19 throughout the country.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced the figures and also confirmed there have been no new deaths in the last 24 hours.

There hasn't been a death in Scotland from coronavirus since July 16.

It was also confirmed that 258 people are currently being treated in hospital with three in intensive care.

Yesterday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced it was too soon to reduce lockdown measure in place in Aberdeen.

She asked all residents in the area to continue to only leave the house for essential reasons including work and education.

NHS Tayside announced a cluster had also been identified in north-east Angus.

Among the five people who tested positive, one is linked to the recent outbreak in Aberdeen.

A cluster of cases was also confirmed to be linked to Bannerman High School in the Baillieston area of Glasgow following the school’s reopening.

None of those with positive cases are understood to have attended the building and are self-isolating at home.

They are said to be experiencing mild symptoms.

Meanwhile, Peterhead Central School has been forced to close today after a member of staff tested positive for the virus.
