The figures were revealed today ahead of new Tier changes taking effect today from 6pm.

Nicola Sturgeon also announced that 11 Scottish local authority areas will move into Tier 4, the strictest level of restrictions.

The new rules include travel restrictions with those in Tier 3 and Tier 4 areas told to remain in their council area.

Despite non-essential trips between council areas being banned, airports remain open.

The Scottish Government has insisted schools will remain open in Tier 4 areas despite widespread calls for their closure.

The level four rules cover Glasgow city, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire Stirling and West Lothian.

Sturgeon said: "In the situation we face, in common with much of the rest of the world, the job of government must be to do what is necessary to save lives and protect health, even when we know these decisions will not be welcome."
