Nicola Sturgeon announces 3 new coronavirus deaths overnight and 692 cases

Nicola Sturgeon has announced that three Scots have died of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The First Minister gave the update today in the Scottish Parliament.

Figures released reveal 692 new cases of the virus have been identified overnight.

The latest figures mean that, since the start of the pandemic, 7,562 people have lost their lives to coronavirus in Scotland.

The statistics also reveal a total of 321 people are being treated in hospital, with 31 in ICU an addition of three.

2,249,612 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 13,581 received their second dose yesterday.

Last night Scottish landmarks were lit up to mark the first anniversary of the coronavirus lockdown.

The Kelpies, Edinburgh Castle, the Wallace Monument and Ness Bridge, changed colour on the national day of reflection as Scots looked back at the Covid-19 pandemic.

A minute's silence was also held on Tuesday and people were encouraged to stand on their doorsteps with phones, candles and torches to signify a "beacon of remembrance".

Boris Johnson has also come under fire today over his claim that “greed” and capitalism contributed to the success of the UK vaccine programme.

The Prime Minister was accused of a having a “warped” understanding of the crisis after he made the joke to Tory backbenchers, according to a report.
