Nicola Sturgeon announces 29 new Covid-19 cases but no deaths recorded

There were 29 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Scotland, the First Minister has announced today.

But there have now been zero deaths related to the killer virus in the last 24 hours.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases across the country now stands at 19,027.

Patients currently being treated in hospital with the deadly virus stands at 267 with three currently in intensive care.

The total number of Covid-19 deaths in Scotland remains at 2,491.

The health board says 728 close contacts of detected cases in the cluster have been identified, and will be required to self-isolate.

Our sister paper The Sunday Mail revealed yesterday that staff at the country’s biggest pub chain failed to ask for customers’ details after Nicola Sturgeon ordered a crackdown amid fears bars were  Covid-19 hotspots.

A probe visited licensed premises to establish if venues were observing guidance to help lower infection rates.

Scotland’s largest pub chain, JD Wetherspoon, asked for details in just two out of the seven branches we visited.

Leading virologist Professor Hugh Pennington described the findings as “inexcusable.”
