Nicola Sturgeon announces 22 deaths in Scotland overnight amid 591 new cases

A further 22 Scots have died of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Nicola Sturgeon announced that 591 new cases of the virus were recorded overnight, bringing the total number to 207,747 since the start of the pandemic.

Scotland's death toll currently sits at 7,483.

It was announced that 556 people are being treated in hospital while 42 are currently in ICU wards.

It comes as we revealed bosses raking in billions from lucrative health contracts have failed to pay the Scottish Government’s £500 bonus to NHS workers like porters, catering staff and cleaners.

In December, the bonus was announced as a way to thank key workers across the health service for their work throughout the pandemic.

However, massive PFI firm Serco, who run non-medical services at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Wishaw General Hospital, Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary, Langlands Hospital and the Louisa Jordan in Glasgow, have yet to stump up the cash.

Yesterday we also told how Nicola Sturgeon has vowed that the reopening of hairdressers will not be delayed.
