Nicola Sturgeon announces 18 positive cases confirmed overnight but zero deaths for 18th day

No new coronavirus deaths have been registered in Scotland for the last 18 days but another 18 confirmed cases have been found.

The total number of positive cases is now 18,694 since the start of the pandemic with figures slowly beginning to rise again.

Nicola Sturgeon announced that 265 of patients are currently being treated for confirmed or suspected cases of the virus in hospital - with 3 in intensive care - this is not a change from yesterday.

A health board breakdown shows 11 of the new cases are in Grampian, six in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and one in Lothian.

A total of 2,491 people have died from coronavirus in Scotland.

The First Minister earlier warned that the virus still poses a “real and present” threat to public health after dozens of Scots ignored social distancing at pubs.

It follows an outbreak linked to The Hawthorn bar in Aberdeen where a cluster of cases have been identified.

Commenting on shocking images of boozed-up punters shared by SNP MP Stephen Flynn, Sturgeon wrote: “COVID remains a real and present threat to our health and wellbeing.

“Scenes like these are dangerous, and could easily result in pubs being closed again - which no one wants. We all have a responsibility here. Please, please everybody keep the heid.”
