Nicola Sturgeon announcement: latest lockdown rule review due at Scottish Parliament today

Nicola Sturgeon is set to give an update on Scotland's lockdown tiers today as part of the weekly review on restrictions.

The First Minister will deliver the news to the Scottish Parliament this afternoon, where she will confirm the decisions made regarding the five tier coronavirus measures in place.

Glasgow is one of 11 council areas in Scotland that were placed under Level 3 restrictions on Friday of last week after spending three weeks under Level 4 restrictions - in a move that was made following an improvement in the number of new cases in recent weeks.

However, it is highly unlikely that any changes will be announced to Glasgow's Level 3 restrictions, with Ms Sturgeon previously saying that she hopes the measures that came into force last week would stay in place throughout the Christmas period.

This will of course be dependent on the continued suppression of the virus, she noted.

Yesterday's figures saw 734 new positive Covid-19 cases confirmed across the country, bringing the total number of cases in Scotland to 106,904.

213 of the new cases were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, with 95 in Lanarkshire.

No new deaths were recorded, however, the First Minister reminded Scots that registry offices are closed at the weekend, therefore the figure was likely to be artificially low.
