Nicola Adams and Katya Jones rumoured to be Strictly Come Dancing's first same-sex pairing

Nicola Adams and Katya Jones may be Strictly Come Dancing’s first-ever same-sex couple, according to reports.

Olympic champion Adams, 37, is now thought to be partnered up with the 31-year-old Strictly professional for the upcoming series, after they were photographed leaving a reported filming location together.

The BBC has not yet revealed the official celebrity pairings, with the partnerships officially being unveiled during the Saturday, October 17 launch show.

Adams previously said being paired with a female professional is a “brilliant step in the right direction, especially on the diversity side of things.”

The sports star said: “Women actually dance with women all the time in the professional circuit, so I guess it’s just showing people that it can be done.”

Other celebrities taking part include comedian Bill Bailey, actress Caroline Quentin and former home secretary Jacqui Smith.

Strictly, which has been delayed this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, is adhering to a strict protocols in order to prevent any of the cast from spreading the potentially deadly virus.

New rules include one half of all the celebrity pairings now having to live alone during the course of the show, as well as the cast and crew taking regular coronavirus tests.

Last week, singer and YouTube star HRVY, 21, revealed he was isolating for 10 days after testing positive for coronavirus.

It is understood he will still take part in the launch show – when the celebrities are paired with their dance partners – depending on him getting a negative test result.

Reassuring fans that he didn’t have any symptoms, HRVY wrote on social media: “Hi, wasn't gonna worry anyone and say anything but now the story's out, I have coronavirus, I'm all good, no symptoms, just isolating for the next 10 days.

“Already super bored so prepare yourselves for my TikToks.”

However, anyone who tests positive when the show goes live will find themselves eliminated from the competition in order to adhere with the government’s self-isolation requirements.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday, October 17 on BBC One
