Niclas Eliasson a Celtic transfer target as club weigh up move for Bristol City winger

Celtic are weighing up a deadline-busting move for Bristol City winger Niclas Eliasson.

The Swedish 24-year-old has been a star in the Robins’ chase for Championship promotion this season with three goals and a league-leading 10 assists.

And a senior Celtic source confirmed to MailSport that he is firmly on their radar and has been watched.

However they face competition from Serie A title chasers Lazio and Spaniards Villarreal.

The former Swedish under-21 attacker is out of contract at the end of the season, although it’s believed the Ashton Gate side - bossed by former Hearts and Kilmarnock midfielder Lee Johnson - have a further year’s option on him.

Eliasson, a dual national who also holds Brazilian citizenship, moved to Bristol in August 2017 for a fee of around £1.8m.

But with his side just two points out of the play-off places in the race for the Premier League, Celtic face a fight to land him.

Speaking before about his playmaker, Johnson said: “The way I would see it is he has 18 months on his contract but we would absolutely love it for him to sign a new contract. We value him hugely.

“We’re discussing, he’s changed agents, but we’ve been sitting down and talking about it since the start of the summer but then agents change, other priorities come in between that. But the simple stance is we’d love him to stay longer.

“In any negotiations it takes time but currently he has 18 months on his contract and we’d love to see it extended.”
