Former MP Nicky Morgan has been made a life peer and will continue in her role as Culture Secretary, amid a Cabinet reshuffle from Boris Johnson.
Downing Street announced that Ms Morgan, who served as MP for Loughborough from 2010 to 2019 but did not run at the last election, would stay in the role this evening.
No 10 also said she would take questions in the House of Lords.
Despite keeping her cabinet role, reports suggested she will only keep the job temporarily until a wider reshuffle early next year.
The PM is expected to carry out a wider re-shuffle of his top team in February with reports suggesting up to a third of his top team could go.
This evening, Mr Johnson briefly addressed the new Conservative MPs at Westminster, telling them they were “here to get things done”.
Flick Drummond, the new MP for Meon Valley, said he was “very inspiring”.
“He talked about how excited he was to see so many of us here. He said we are here to get things done. We are here to get Brexit done,” she said.
Caroline Ansell, MP for Eastbourne, said: “There is a real energy, a real buzz. Everybody is very keen to move forward.”
Paul Howell, who took Tony Blair’s old Sedgefield seat, said: “It is a fabulous occasion. It is a new profile for the Conservative Party. We have got to deliver across the country.”
