Nicky Clark to extend Dundee United stay as he closes in on new contract

Nicky Clark is close to agreeing a new one-year deal to extend his stay at Dundee United to 2021.

The former Rangers striker has been a key figure for the Tannadice side in recent weeks as they stormed 13 points clear at the top of the Championship .

Clark has netted five times in the last eight games and stepped up to the plate when top marksman Lawrence Shankland was ruled out through injury.

Now the 28-year-old frontman, whose contract was due up next summer, is close to agreeing a new one-year deal after weeks of talks.

United boss Robbie Neilson sang Clark's praises after he shrugged off an injury-hit start to the season to form a deadly partnership with Shankland.

He said: “I think the two of them have got a really good understanding and link with real good quality.

“It was important we got him back and we just need to keep him fit.”
